Daycare Provider Spotlight: Meet Kayla from Logibear Childcare
This month’s Daycare Provider Spotlight introduces Kayla from Logibear Childcare. Kayla is a Registered Early Childhood Educator with more than 13 years of experience creating a warm, play-based environment for children and families.
Inspired by growing up in a home filled with community and care, Kayla built Logibear Childcare to feel like a child’s second home: a place where little ones can learn, explore, and build confidence through creativity, connection, and play. From circle time songs and outdoor adventures to bubble dance parties and imaginative storytelling, every day is filled with fun and meaningful moments.
In this Spotlight, Kayla shares the inspiration behind her daycare, her childcare philosophy, favourite traditions, and what she loves most about working with children.
1.What inspired you to open your home daycare, and how long have you been operating?
From a young age, I grew up surrounded by other children in my home, where my own mother ran childcare for families in our community. I saw the value in being raised in a loving, social atmosphere, learning alongside friends both old and new. I wanted my own children to experience this as well and I wanted to be home with them as they grew while still earning an income. After becoming an Early Childhood Educator, I first worked in daycare centres and then I became a private Nanny for families in the Durham Region. Once I had my first child of my own, I opened Logibear Childcare. I have been operating for just over 13 years.
2. What does a typical day inside your daycare look like?
Freeplay in the playroom while we wait for everyone to arrive. Once all of our friends have arrived for the day, we begin with singing some songs at circle time! We talk about a fun topic and about the weather for the day. We then head outside to play! After we come inside and wash up, we read a story together and sing a song to transition into lunch.
After lunch, we have a nice nap to refresh for more afternoon fun. In the afternoon, we have a snack and more free play time in the playroom. Once all of our friends are finished eating, we would sing, play, read and learn together! Some days include special occasion crafts. Some rainy days include indoor bubble dance parties! We have a lot of fun together!
3. How would you describe your childcare philosophy?
My childcare uses Friedrich Froebel’s philosophy, centering on holistic, play-based education that views children as active, creative beings, where my role as an educator is to act as a facilitator. Nurturing curiosity and providing “freedom with guidance” rather than passive instruction. Friedrich Froebel said that “Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul.”
4. What’s your favourite part about working with children?
One of my favourite parts about working with children is seeing their growth—both big and small. Whether it’s a child learning a new skill, gaining confidence, or simply feeling proud of themselves, those moments are incredibly rewarding. I also love their curiosity and honesty; every day is different, and they constantly remind me to see the world with fresh eyes. Building relationships with them and being someone they trust and feel safe with is something I value deeply.
5. What’s one activity the kids always get excited about?
Bubbles! Everybody loves bubbles! We use them outside, inside, during our circle time stories, while having a dance party, you name it! The kids love when the bubbles come out.
6. What song or book do you share that is always a huge hit?
One of the classic stories we circulate often is Michael Rosen’s, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”! We sing it, we act it out, we use it on our outdoor adventures and even change the words sometimes to adapt to what we are hunting for! We hunt for birds when spring arrives, Leprechaun’s around St. Patrick’s day, ghosts near halloween etc… During Easter, we went for “an Easter egg hunt” using this story!
7. What’s one thing you wish more people understood about home childcare programs?
Home childcare programs are intentionally different. We build close relationships with families, and provide consistency in a small, family-like environment. My space is often referred to as a child’s “second home” by families, both current and past.
8. What’s your favourite memory from your home daycare so far?
A lot of my favourite memories involve silly made-up words or phrases from the mouths of babes that I wouldn’t otherwise hear outside of the daycare world. These words or phrases tend to cause unforgettable tiny giggles that help ingrain these moments inside my memories forever.
9. What’s one skill you hope every child leaves your care with?
Independence is huge for going off to Kindergarten, but ultimately I want every child to feel safe expressing themselves, try new things, and believe in themselves. Whether it’s using their words, solving small problems, or building friendships, that confidence carries with them long after they leave my care.
10. What’s one daycare item you could not live without?
Any open-ended toys (any type of building blocks, play kitchen, puppets etc..). They spark creativity, problem-solving, and cooperation every single day. The same items can turn into a restaurant, a castle, or a puppet theatre! There’s no limit to how children can use them.
11. What’s one tradition or ritual your daycare has that families love?
For Halloween, all of the kids love to dress up in their costumes together for a mini parade! Families love receiving photos of their little ones dressed up alongside their friends in costume. It’s not everyday a group photo is shown with a Lion, Tiger and Bear at daycare!
12. What do you enjoy most about the Her Yes Club app and community, and why?
Running a home daycare can feel isolating at times, so having a space where providers share ideas, ask questions, and lift each other up is incredibly valuable. The ability to advertise our available spaces to families searching for quality care is a huge asset to our community.

Here’s a look at Kayla’s outdoor space! She is just one of the many talented, passionate providers who are part of the Her Yes Club community, and we are so grateful she took the time to share her story with us.
If you’re a parent in the Courtice area, Kayla currently has full-time availability at the time this blog post is published. You can connect with her directly through the Her Yes Club app to ask about openings and find out if her program is the right fit for your family!
Are you a parent searching for care that feels this thoughtful? Her Yes Club connects families with trusted, independent home daycare providers across Canada. Download the app on the App Store or Google Play to start your search.
